Won't start or stalls, loses power 700 1991

Hi All,

Until a few months ago my 91 740 (auto) was perfectly reliable.

About 3 months ago, it started having problems:

1. Car would stall when decelerating hard and be nearly impossible to start without spraying starter fluid into the air intake.

2. Soon therafter, it would lose power while cruising -- almost like it was stuck in a weird gear and then either resume normal operation or stall out.

3. Last week it refused to start at all-- even with starter fluid.

I am not sure that #2 is related to #1 and #3, but I suspect it is.
I have had it tuned regularly so don't think it's gross neglect of the ignition.

I'm thinking it must be fuel, but know nothing about diagnosing these "modern" Volvos.

Any ideas?
