Help! Blower resistor 200 1987

Hello all. I'm in the middle of a blower motor replacement and I a little confused on the resistor and harness. Do I have to split the cases to remove the resistor? The wiring goes theu a hole in the cases. It looks like the white plug may just barely be able to fit thru the hole in the cases, but I'm not sure. Looks like the only way to remove the existing resistor and wiring is to clip the wires. I don't want to do this if I can't get the new one in without splitting the cases. Thanks.
