erratic oil consumption 900 1994

Is this possible or does it have to be measurement error? For example, I took a 350 mile trip. When I arrived, I checked the oil and it was at the top of the full mark. Two days latter, I drive home the same route and when I arrive, it is 3/4 qt. low.
This is a 940 turbo, and the only difference in driving was that I drove the first leg at night and drove back during the day. Which means the night driving was 5 mph slower and cooler.
