Help....ABS brakes on 87 760 Volvo Sedan 700

Ok all, just arrived home from work. My mother is having problems with her brakes. She said the petal just about went to the floor on her way home. Now, my car does not have ABS so I am not very farmiliar with them. Any hints on what to check, I ordered some pads and can run down and pick them up before the store closes...anything I should know about changes pads on the ABS? I may have to do this tonight...oh well...any help would be appreciated!
