I had the tires rotated this morning at a local tire chain store.
The guy told me that I need new brake pads all around, not too surprising except for the back. He told me they are wearing thin along one edge and that they typically replace the calipers when working on 240s.
He also said I have grooves in the front rotors and that Volvo recommends replacement rather than turing them.
Lastly he said the struts & shocks require replacement.
My questions are, why would the rear brake pads wear funny? I think I had the rear calipers replaced within the last 2 years.
Are grooves in the rotors cause for replacement? I plan to keep the car another 15K (it has 223,000 miles presently).
Lastly their price for doing the struts is around $225. Doesn't seem that bad from the work I've read about that job here on the brickboard. I plan to do the rear shocks myself.
I haven't done brakes before but feel confident I can replace the pads myself, I'm more concerned about the calipers being bad and just want to make sure they are adjusted (if possible) or that they aren't a total loss.
Thanks
Mike
