What is this sensor? 200 1984

Thanks everyone for the info/tips about changing the intake manifold gasket, fuel injector seals, and vacuum hoses on my 84 245ti. Spent all day yesterday working on it and now the idle is much improved. Of course, this project has generated some new questions.

1) I was planning on replacing the coolant temp sensor. I had one that I purchased from eeuroparts.com but the one they sent me doesn't look like the sensor Bentley indicates is the coolant temp sensor. The one from eeuroparts is gold colored and has a male spade connector. It looks very similar to another sensor on the engine but I couldn't find in Bentley what that one is. Any ideas?

2) When I pulled the injectors out (still attached to the fuel lines, which worked fine) I saw the smaller, thick upper o-rings but no skinny, lower o-rings. I swapped out the thick ones on the injectors and set the skinny ones in the base of the injector port before tightening the retainers. Was this correct?

3) What is the cannister in the driver side front wheel well that has two vacuum hoses attached to it?

Thanks again for all the help,
Corey
