Towing Long Distance with 1991 740 Turbo 700 1991

I am about to relocate and would need to pull a trailer 1400 miles across varied terrain with my 1991 Volvo with 153,000 miles. Has anyone taken a trip like this before, any suggestions for pre-trip maintenance/checks, and would you even recommend doing this? I am planning on renting a u-haul trailer and pulling with a hitch rated at approx 3000 lbs (though I severely doubt I'd actually be pulling that much weight). Any insights/experiences would be welcome.
