Transmission Leak 900 1994

I've got a 1994 940 wagon with 100,000. It has a small leak. I was told it's coming from the trans pan gasket. It's been 40,000 miles since the trans has been serviced. I was told that if the pan is dropped and fluid is replaced, shavings could break free and ruin the trans--that I should just live with the leak. I would appreciate any opinions. Thanks.
