Attack of the sleeved 230ft..... 700 1989

Hey ya'll, thanks in advance for any replies.

My smoking deal ($1000 CAN) for a gold 740 tic is literally smoking, right now...haha

This IS a good price for the car, but of course, there are some isues. After driving it semi-hard for a week, the timing belt popped. When I replaced it, it looked cracked all over, so no big worry, it was time. A newish water pump, all metal rad and clean intercooler went in, too.

Another week later, and there's white smoke coming out the tail. Even a little milkshake under the filler cap.

Damn!

Anyways, I'm performing a compression test today, but I'm curious if the turbo could be allowing coolant to slip by it's piston ring-type seals and be burnt by the exhaust side of the compressor before exiting throught the muffler....the turbo had wisps' of smoke coming out of it, didn't smell like exhaust, more like the white stuff coming out the back end.

Another thing......this is wierd.....the previous owner had to have a new(rebuilt?) engine put in. I talked to the mechanic, he gave me the huge list of maintenance records, and told me the original engine couldn't be bored out, the had to put SLEEVES in the block!

I've never heard of that before in my volvo existence. Ever.

Anyone got an opinion on a b230ft that's been sleeved???

Could it cause premature head gasket failure? I ask because the new engine only has 140,000 kms. on it.It's a little early for a head job, IMHO.

Regardless, the car runs fast, strong, a smidgen of rust to take care of, and plenty of spare donor parts to use from my beloved 86 760 tic wagon. (riencarnation!!)

Anyone think a sleeved engine is a bad candidate for a little calibrated overboosting?...I've got a spare engine and trans. on call, ready to replace at a moment (or 3 days) notice, so having some fun with the "sleever" is a definite possibility!

Thanks again, Josh
