Disconnecting Airbag when & how? 200

Hello - I need to do some work on the dash(guages) and front seat of my 92 245 , but do I need to disconnect the airbag before that? According to the Hayes manual I should diconnect it before I go anywhere near the steering column or front seat.

Any tips on how to do it quick would be appreciated also.
