stalling when low on gas 200 1986

My 1986 240 has been stalling at stop signs when the gas is less than a quarter of a tank. It will start back up again, with a little trouble, then stall at the next stop. It runs completely fine driving down the road. The only trouble is at stops. Is this a sign of something to come, maybe schmutz in the tank, or is it because she's pushing 20 years of age?? Thanks.
