I have an 81 242.
A few days ago I got a no-start with the tell-tale silent fuel pump. I assumed the realy was bad. Both pumps are less than 2 years old.
Yesterday I went to double chack all the fuses etc. before shelling out the 40 bucks for a new relay and when I cranked the car, it started. On inspection the #7 fuse was quite warped, oxidized, and extremely hot (I have the glass kind). I sanded & greased the contacts last summer, so they are still in great shape.
Feeling like taking a risk I drove today with no problem. I checked the relay when I got home and it was what I would describe a "very warm." I am inclined to replace it anyway, since I've had the car for almost 10 years and the relay could be original for all I know. From what I gather from the FAQ & other posts, a wearing out relay could lead to more current draw, straining the pumps and blowing fuses.
The X factor is that my stereo isn't getting any power. When I took out the #7 to inspect, and then put it back in, the stereo beeped to remind me to take the face off, which it does when the car is turned off. Other than that, no power.
Any idea how these problems could be related? Thanks in advance.
