1986 240 gl 120,xxx. First off this is my wife's 240, I cant remember the last time I had trouble with mine (knock on wood). She had been complaining that the 240 would start fine and most of the time run fine, but had recently been losing power when accelerating. I drove a few times, all seemed fine; I just thought she wanted more power than it had on tap, so we switched cars for a week and this is how its going: Acceleration either from a stop, going up a hill, or passing on the highway at times is unavailable. The more throttle you give it the worse it does, back off the pedal and go smooth w/it and you can make it, but its not easy. If the car is turned off and restarted the problem is gone, only to appear a few days later. I don't want this to get any worse, so I told her I would "consult the professionals" AMM is good, recent fuel filter/fuel pump replacment (but pump was an autozone crap pump, I feel the shame)and new cat converter. The lady claims "I heard a buzzing from the outside one time" which leads me to believe this could be the crap pump, my filter is clogged, or possible relay? Please help so I can drive MY 240 again. (The wife is pretty rough on autos, I cringe when I see her drive away in mine)
On a different note, is there a post on this site giving locations of reputable and honest volvo mechanics? If there is I can't find it, and I can't trust anybody around here other than the dealer.
Thanks again for your help, long live the 240.
