Waxing around/under roof rack parts 900 1994

I waxed my new 940 Wagon with a roof rack for the first time this weekend. As I was trying to get around and under those five slats at the bottom of the rack that touch/almost touch the roof, I was wondering if it would be easier just to take the whole thing off and then wax it.

Any waxing advice from wagon owners?
