Got my 242Ti acquired last fall for a good price on the road last week. Had to replace the heater motor and right tail light assy, but it passed inspection and I was out for my first long foray, down to RI, then to Worcester for the ECAC rowing champs. On the way home after driving for about 1/2 hour at 40-50mph I noticed the brakes seemed low, then they were gone, petal to the floor, nothing. What a heart stopper! With vigorous pumping I got stopped. I felt the left front wheel, it was very hot. After sitting for about 10 minutes I decided to drive on the emergency to get home, and hoping the movement would cool the brake. After a mile or so the brakes came back and worked fine the rest of the way home.
I assume the brakes are dragging and overheated the fluid to boiling.
Strange, though I had driven for 30 minutes on the interstate up from RI, the brakes were fine at that time.
At 1 point the steering got real wobbly, like a very out of balance wheel, then it went away. Can't imagine what that is. Could it be related to the brake dragging problem?
