960 RPM sensor removal problem 900

We have a 1992 964 with a 1993 engine. After installation of the "new" engine the OBD keeps intermitantly issuing the code for a bad RPM sensor (1-3-1 I think). However, removing the old sensor has proved problematic. Meaning, I can't get it out. Apparently there is a small metal post that is supposed to stay stationary but it instead moves with the sensor when one trys to remove it. I have taken the car to two different, and good, shops and neeither has been ablt to remove the sensor. I would REALLY like some ideas. The car will either run butter smooth or not start.
