The recent discussion about Webers vs. SUs has given me a kick in the pants for getting a pair of SUs I have rebuilt and replacing the Weber on my car... and got me back to thinking about air/fuel meters again. (the Weber has been OK, but I want the Volvo purity of the SUs back!) I'm going to be doing some work on the exhaust system, so while I'm at it I'm thinking of the AEM wideband UEGO air/fuel meter kit Summit Racing has. It has a heated O2S, so it doesn't have to be close to the manifold to work, but I'm wondering about where the best place to weld the bung might be. I also have a couple old BMW twins with Bing carbs on them- they seem similar to SUs, in that they're CV, but also a bit more complicated in that not only are there needles, but needle jets, idle jets and main jets, all variable.... and the bits are expensive... I guess they're sort of a combination of a Weber AND an SU! Anyway, my idea is to also weld a bung into the exhausts on the bikes and to rig up the meter so I can temporarily mount it to use to tune the bikes as well. I like the idea of having the meter available for all my vehicles so when I change things I can see what is getting affected over a range of conditions etc., but otherwise I can just plug up the ports for the O2S. Is there a good reason why this might be a bad idea? Anyone know of a source for the additional bungs for the sensors?
