For almost a year I've had an AC system that worked only occasionally. Lately (as the weather in Miss really warmed up) it quit working at all. Thanks to the FAQs my symptoms pointed to a malfunctioning HVAC control unit. I pulled my unit out of the dash and took it to a local retired radio repairman who knows much more about printed circuit board repair than I do. A day later I got it back, paid him $25, slapped it into the dash, and voila, cold air once again. He resoldered some joints, particularly those connected to a relay on the board and to the wiring connectors on the back of the control unit.
While the unit was out, I decided to clean my condensor. It didn't look bad at all upon casual examination, but when I removed the external "pusher" fan, I found enough trash behind it to build a large bird's nest. There was also a lot of trash on the condensor at the botton where the air deflector directs airflow. Without the FAQs, I would have chased a bunch of dead ends without considering the control unit. Many, many, thanks to all.
Next I'm going to pull my malfunctioning speedo and see if he can fix that. Wish me luck!
