'Tis the season for A/C recharge.
Thanks again to rhaire and daveshan for
their quick replies in helping me find the
service ports to recharge the system on my
1990 244.
Well, I was able to evacuate the system. I pumped
it down for over an hour - it was holding 28lbs.
of vacuum - no leaks. I started up the car, turned
the A/C on to max and proceeded to charge, but
could not get the compressor to engage. I checked
all of the electrical connections - the compressor
(green wire) was 12V, after reconnecting, I checked the
compressor clutch wire directly behind the clutch
(black wire) it too was reading 12.0+ volts. (I used
the test lead to poke through the insulation)
To me, it looks like I have a bad compressor clutch.
It is receiving 12.0+ Volts and still won't engage.
I am leaning towards buying a new A/C clutch for $100
and going from there... Of course, I could replace the clutch
and still have a bad compressor - more $$$
Does anyone have any advice on the matter?
Thanks,
