Is this a Scam?

I am trying to sell my 89 740. These's an ad in the classifieds on this site. Over the past few days I've recieved some weird e-mails.

The potential buyer apparently has no experience buying a car. He asked all kinds of questions like: Do you own the car? Then he said his customer has aggreed to move forward with the transaction for 1,000 (what I'm asking), but he would sign some kind of canceled payment over to me for 7,000 and send it with the deliverer. I'm to pay back the remaining 6,000 on the spot.

This does not sit well for me. I told him that I would only communicate with the buyer from now on. It sounds like a scam.

If you guys think it is a scam, I'll gladly post his name.
