Lights out, (not really!) wont go off! 700

I got out of the car today and noticed that the lights were still on. 740T , 1991.
A few months ago I noticed that my headights stayed on when I turned them to park. I have also noticed that the relay marked "J" is very hot.

I pulled the relay marked J and the lights went out. Came in the house and consulted the archives. Did not find a thing that seemed related. Put the relay back in and the lights went back to being off when the car or the switch was off, but still have headlights in the park position. It looks like the FAQ suggests that the headlight relay is "A" and "E" so now I'm confused.

The J relay is a Bosch relay of the 87/87 (two 87 terminals) type (I work on Volvo power boats in the real world) rather than the 87 87A type. (Im wondering of some last owner may have gone in with an 87/87A type relay and some clueless counter type sold them the wrong relay.

(yes, I know that many parts folks are really sharp, but they are treasures and not always easy to find{one of my guys used to be heard cussing in the shop ater a parts delivery, " that @#$%@@## got me again" when we
were got, again, by a particularly clueless guy from a large national chain}). In all fairness, there were also 2 great ones and 2 good ones there!!!

Any of you spark chasing Gurus have word of wisdom to share on this one?

Regards

Woody
