While cleaning and sandblasting the suspension, brake and rear axle parts of my 444 project it occurs to me that I need to figure out what color to paint things before reassembly. When I started it looked like everything was black under all the grime. But now I see that someone long ago apray painted most everything underneath black - even the shocks. As I clean things up, under the dirt/grease/black I am seeing bits of red here and there. For example, the U-bolts and sleeves over the bushings on rear axle, the bracked on top of diff case. The transmission is red like the engine but the aluminum B18 bell housing (from a donor 544) is just bare - no paint.
Can someone tell me or direct me to a place that tells the colors the parts were from the factory circa 1958? I'm changing some things but would like to keep the original look where I can.
And Cam, I still have the pictures you sent of the blue and yellow brakes you found when you opened one of your 444's. That's not quite what I have in mind.
Thanks,
Keith W.
