What transmission fluid should go in a 960? 900

Hi Everyone,

I want to change my '93 960's automatic trans fluid. I have the flush kit from IPD that I bought for my older Volvos. I'm also going to drop the pan and change the filter. My question is, can I use Mercon Dexron III or do I have to buy synthetic fluid? I thought that I read somewhere that these cars left the factory with synthetic ATF fluid.
