problem with no acceleration on 1992 940 4 cyl 900 1992

The problem is with acceleration on 1992 940 4 cyl. When you step on the gas, it misses, spits back up in the intake manifold and doesn't go above idle. More severe when the engine is cold. Has anyone had this problem?
