Hi, I am trying to solve a dilemma with minimal cash outlay. Naturally, one week after I sold my beautiful '87 245 that I've owned for 12 very trouble-free yrs. it started giving a problem to the new owner, an acquaintance to whom I said I would fix this particular problem free as a pre-existing condition. The intermittent-progressing-to-permanent no-start condition has revealed itself to be the Hall sender in the distributor. I want to get a used distributor in lieu of the ~ $120 Hall unit. Here's the catch - the engine in the car is from my prior very rusty 1985 245. The only consequence of this over the years has been that I occasionally forget to get the right rotor for it as it has the 14 mm shaft in the distributor.
The question is can the more common 86+ distributor from the B230F in the 240 (with the 10 mm shaft) exchange with the earlier one? This is dependent on whether the idler shaft was changed between '85 and '86. Because of the shaft diameter difference, swapping the drive gear on the distributorwon't be an option.
As always, TIA.
P.P. Anyone got a cheap impulse sender for a 14 mm shaft distributor?
