Still concerned about removing crank pulley 200 1991

Read all the notes on removing the pulley, esp parts about holding the crank from turning. Using the tool seems best but I haven't one. Will order from IPD but I need this car going by the end of next week and I'm still unsure what is broken (it's not the belt) so I'd like to get the pulley off asap.
SO:
1 (best option)anyone in the Boston area have the crank holding tool I can borrow?
2 I like the hit the starter trick with the wrench sitting on a jack stand, but what is the real risk to my crank key?
3 Rope trick, a bit riskier as I have to find TDC using only the camshaft. Is TDC on the cam (both #1 valves closed) at the belt alighnment marks for the cam gear?
This though has the same risk as 2 with regards to the crank key nub.

AM ordering IPD part now........any ideas in the meantime?
