Getting 'desert ready' 700

Hi folks,

Need to get my '85 740 TurboDiesel Wagon (automatic) ready for a trip through the Southwest. They're already having temps above 110 in Arizona. I have a couple weeks to get ready.

Here's a list of things I'm considering. Any comments and advice are appreciated.

Currently the car has the Blackstone radiator with plastic sides. It looks good, although there is some oily residue inside. Should I replace it with an all metal one from the junkyard?

I'm going to replace the water valve.

Already replaced water pump, thermostat, and coolant reservoir.

Fan clutch from newer vehicle in junkyard?

I just picked up an AC compressor from the junkyard. The old one siezed last summer. I guess I need to take the car to a garage to test for leaks, otherwise this replacement compressor may just sieze up also?

The condenser is banged up on the bottom and has an imprint from the electric fan on the front. Does it need to be replaced?

Add a switch for the condenser fan?

Get a variable orifice valve.

Keep cool,

GreenGenes
