Radio failure mode 900 1991

Need to find out the general failure mode for the radio in a 91 940SE.

Radio currently is mostly off, but sometimes starts playing music... It's not the power to the unit, as the display always works.

I checked the FAQ's, and nothing is mentioned.

Is it the radio or the amp, and can it be repaired by me with some simple electronic tools?
