engine boom with new timing gear 120-130 1967

I was experiencing a clattery engine a few weeks back and so got a new fibre timing gear set put in the 122S. The idle is now beautifully quiet, but the engine roars in the upper rev range of each gear with a louder sound than ever before. Each gear sounds like the one below it used to sound. Even overdrive is not the pleasant ride it used to be. It's not a thrashing sound, but more like (I imagine) when you get a stainless steel exhaust.

Is this a normal start to new timing gears, while they settle in, and will they get quieter, or is it possible that metal is touching metal that shouldn't be? I have no experience with having new ones, so have no comparison to go on, and I'm hoping you good folks can guide me.

Thanks

Tom
