Taillights keep failing on 245 200 1989

The tailights on the right side of my 89 245 are continuosly not working. I get them fixed and a couple weeks later they stop again. It is usually on the right side but sometimes on drivers side too. Can anyone help with this problem. My car is up for inspection very soon. Could the problem be related to the tailgate leak?
