In preparation for a fairly complete overhaul/rebuild of one of the two amazon B18 engines that I have, I've been assembling parts and disassembling my spare motor. My goal is to rebuild the spare engine and install it with a minimum of downtime for the car. The front and rear seals on the installed motor have been upgraded and I wanted to upgrade the seals on the spare engine as well (as opposed to switching the older upgraded seals to the rebuilt engine.

I purchased an new unused IPD front seal from eBay and found that it doesn't fit into my spare timing cover. I realized that the seal is for a timing cover that has already been machined. I figured I could take it to a machine shop myself and have it modified to accept the updated seals. However, what should be done to it is not as obvious as I had expected. I can see that the opening needs to be enlarged somewhat, but the seal seems to require the additions of a lip to hold the new seal. I hesitate to pull my own timing cover for comparison, as I don't have a spare gasket for the reinstall. Plus, I don't want to cripple my Amazon.

Overall, I'd rather not drop 100.00 for the front housing exchange with IPS (plus the $50.00 core charge). Can anyone tell me what should be done to the front housing to make it accept the new seal?
