Is there a trick to getting the lower front control arm bushings out? 900

My 1997 960 wagon needs to have the front lower control arm bushings replaced (the ones that look like black rubber doughnuts). I ordered new ones and got the car up on a lift. I removed the cross brace and the bolt through the bushing. I also removed the pivot bolt at the front of the control arm so I could move it around a little more.

After an hour of trying to pry, pound, and curse the bushing out, it didn't budge. So I gave up and put it back together. Before I give up for good and take it to a shop, is there anything else I should try?
