Unusual Noise 200

Hello, I have an '87 240 sedan.
I seem to have a noise falling me around. It only occurs when I'm in fifth gear. Sounds like a humming sound. Only when I press on the gas. I don't recall having it as loud years ago when I purchased the car. I think it is something that has been growing louder. Sounds like it is coming from the engine to drive shaft. Not really sure. Possibly behind the instrument panel. Maybe it is normal for these cars. Anyone else have a loud fifth gear? Any insight? thoughts?
