This is going to be a long one and my first. I've been searching the forums for solutions and need more information.

The problem: The '91 740 turbo will intermitently have stalling problems. This can occur at idle, while driving, even on the highway. Other symptoms include fast idle with a sudden drop: the engine will idle very high (~1500-2000) and then suddenly try to die only to build back up to the high idle. A variation on this is surging or just plain very rough idle. These problems will disapper for weeks or even months and then come back. The engine has thrown codes three times during the last year (I've only had it for a year) when the episode is particularly bad. The codes are always the same and indicate Lambda idle adjust, air mass flow hot wire, and air mass flow meter. I've tried changing some other fuel related parts on advice I found in these forums (filter and fuel pressure regulator). The next item on my list is the air mass flow meter. I did get a picture of the air mass flow meter from a parts site (autohauz) but I cannot find it on the engine. So I need to someone to point me to the location. If I can't fix this I'll have to take it to (gasp) the volvo service center (the wife is getting testy about this) and let them replace parts until it behaves. I can replace parts if I just know where they are.

I'm an old hand at fixing Chevy pickups but this volvo is my first. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
