96' 965 AC problems 900

Hi,
I'm in the market for a nice used volvo and found this place, i'm looking at an 855, but my friend has a 96 965.
Just recently the AC has stopped working. But before and still now there seems to be a constant hissing coming from the airducts, even when the system is off. The compresser turns on, the fan blows but it still blows hot air. That would probably means that the AC needs recharging, but what would cause the constant hisssing sound? From the compresser?
