I have a few questions on blower motor replacement for my girlfriend's 1981 245. Tried to do a search but did not find specific answers. Hopefully one of the resident experts on the board that has been through this before can help me.
1) I already purchased a Siemens replacement motor from eBay. How do I go about testing this motor before placing it into the car? Is it as simple as touching the wires to the battery terminals to check for movement, or is something more elaborate required? Can I run checks with a simple multimeter?
2) Does the 1981 model require the purchase of the switch and resistor? The motor instructions say no, various internet sources say yes...seems like I can't find a definite answer.
3) If a new switch and resistor are required, can these be sourced from the local pick-n-pull, or should they be bought new? What model years will work in terms of parts?
4) As I rip apart the dash, any delicate parts I should be especially careful around?
Any help would be much appreciated. I plan to use Mr. Bernstein's (sp?) excellent instructions, cross my fingers, pray for luck, and dive in...
Thanks,
Greg
