thermostat trouble 200 1993

Hi,

Yesterday I drove 2.5 hours, my thermostat initially didn't move, then later indicated running at "ideal" temp, then somewhere along the way drop back down all while car was running, driving on the interstate going 60+ MPH the whole way.
Do I need a new thermostat?
I own 93 240DL.
