Hello,
I am having problems with stalling on my 1987 Volvo 240 wagon with auto transmission. It runs fine when first started, but after driving at highway speed it will sometimes die when I get into stop and go traffic. It will die when accelerating from stop lights, and also when going up hills. Sometimes it dies completely and has to be restarted other times it just looses power for a moment and will pick back up if you let off the gas. When it does die it always starts back up immediately. I can sometimes hear the fuel pump relay clicking on and off when it dies. The main fuel pump is making some noise. I have opened the tank and tried to listen for the pre-pump and I could not hear it.
Would a bad pre-pump lead to these type problems? How about a fuel filter? Could it be a short in the wiring to the fuel pump, or a bad relay? I would like to start with the most likely problem and work from there. Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks
