Before I make my trip to the PNP tomorrow, I need a little info. My g/f's 1981 245 currently has an 85-mph speedometer with a broken odometer. I was able to pick up a 120-mph speedometer, large tach, and small clock from the yard last week. Trouble is, the new-to-me speedo is a .0980 rather than the existing .0960 (or vice versa).
I'd rather change the tranny gear than try to pry off the needle on the new speedo and mess with the internals. Tried busting open a junk speedo with botched results. How difficult is it to pull the driven gear from the tranny of the donor car, and roughly where on the tranny is it located? My Haynes manual gives a little detail, but not much.
Any tips for this job would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg
