Brake Light Failure & No Indication 200 1991

Trans shift would not work. Had to manually override trans shift by moving plastic lever to the side. Suspected micro switch, wiring, selenoid, or something associated with depressing the brake pedal.

Found fuse 7 was blown. Appeared visually ok; however, when I removed it it was obviously blown.

Now the interesting thing is that apparently fuse 7 also controls the rear brake lights. The car was driven the last couple of days (unknowingly) without any functioning brake lights.

Aside from a problem with the gear shift lock (at the time, I did not know that the cause was a fuse) -- I did not know that the brake lights were also not working.

My question is have any of you experienced this failure and devised some kind of indicator to let you know if there are no brake lights such as in this case from a blown fuse?

I know that there is a blown light bulb indicator for blown bulbs, but there is no indicator for when there are no brake lights "at all". Clearly, a safety concern.

Any known design improvements/work-arounds?

Thanks
