The radio (Sony cassette tape) in my 1992 240 is driving me nuts. I'm getting a strange distortion that I can best describe as a ``squelch."
Now, this noise ONLY happens on the FM band (AM is fine) and only if there's content being broadcast. In other words, when I'm tuned to an FM station (signal strength is no issue here) and there's a brief moment of silence between songs or speakers or whatever, then I hear nothing. But as soon as a song starts, or a voice starts, it's horribly distorted in sort of a ``squelching" way. By squelch I mean the sound is almost more of a howl than it is static, if that makes any sense. And like I said -- only on FM, not AM. And not if a tape is playing.
This is the original equipment Sony radio/cassette (model number escapes me). Anybody have an idea what I ought to do?
