I just returned from a week in Western Kentucky with my Wife and my seventeen year old daughter. We took the 93 944 with 253K miles over the 86 245 largely because of the more comfortable seats. The 944 was packed with luggage and I topped off the tank with mid-grade gas. After running at 65 to 75 mph through the great Smokey mountains and into Kentucky with the air conditioner on, I refilled at exactly 400 miles. The usage was 15.6 gallons of fuel. On the trip back (with a stop at the Grand Old Oprey in Nashville), I drove at 75 to 80 mph (keeping up with traffic!) and used 15.7 for a 400 mile test also over the mountains.
The Gabriel Gas front and rear shocks handled beautifully, if a little stiffer than I would have liked, but really proved their worth on the mountain stretches of I 40.
The only other modification on this car is the addition of the 215R60X15 tires on the 87 Turbo Rims, and the replacement of the muffler with a section of 2 1/8" exhaust pipe from Auto Zone. The result of that is a throaty, but not objectionable, exhaust with more pull over 3,000 rpm.
Regards,
