Hi all -
When I pull on the hood release lever, only the furthest latch is released. The one closest to the lever (the one on the driver side)doesn't respond. With a lot of manipulation and force, the stuck latch releases.
After inspecting the cable/latch mechanism in my '88 740gle wagon, it makes sense that the furthest latch releases. I would pull a cable tied to a springy metal catch. The catch get's pulled the same way as the force of my pull and thus releases the latch.
The catch closes to the lever doesn't get pulled when i pull on the release lever. The metal catch has a loop where the cable goes through to get to the next latch, but i don't see how this latch would get pulled when I pull the release lever. Additionally, the catch seems to be set up to release in the opposite direction of the pull of the release lever.
I'm the second owner of this volvo. I'm not sure whether someone replaced the hood cable incorrectly. Very frustrating. Does anyone have a diagram to illustrate how the cable/latch mechanism work. Thank you for any assistance.
