Well alst evening I had a catastrophic loss of tranny fluid. I put fluid in the car and it ran fine for a few blocks and quit! That night i sprayed degreaser all over the tranny and cleaned it. The next morning I put fluid in the tranny and tried again it got a few houses down and started to slip. I then flushed the tranny and the fluid was poo brown.I drove the car around the block and it began to slip again. I dropped the pan and I found that the screen was completely block and fluid would not go up or down. I cleaned the screen spotless and reinstalled every thing with a new pan gasket.
Now the car shifts awesome and does not slip. I discovered that the pump was whining because it was being starved of fluid and could not build pressure. I guess for some reason when I added fluid it couldnt get down and came out the over flow. The pan was leaking a little as well. SO maybe just flushing out the cooler line by itself may not be the best way, you need to clean the screen, too. Now the car shifts with more authority and the whine is gone. Hopefully no permanent damage was done while trying to diagnose the problem or when I initially lost fluid pressure.
The sediment will sink back into the pan after a little while, but when you start back up itll suck up the gritt and block the screen.
Good luck to all and thanks for all your help and advice. The BRICKBOARD alone is a reason to love a VOLVO!
