Steering behavior at parking-lot speeds 200 1989

Hi all,

My wife has a 1989 244 which I am maintaining and slowly getting used to - I'm getting a healthy respect for it, but since it's my first Volvo there are a few things I've been wondering about.

When driving it at very low speeds, like when parking, once I get the steering wheel beyond about 2/3 of the way past center, it "automatically" swings all the way to the stop. Is this just how it works in a Volvo, or does this indicate some problem in the steering (like a bent tie rod, or something similar)?
