This probably should be posted in the Opinions column but the info is factual
and I feel that perhaps it will get more serious consideration here.
Lindsborg, Kansas is a lovely Swedish town settled right after the civil war
by Swedish Lutherans very close to the geographic center of the lower 48.
They work VERY hard to maintain their Swedish heritage, with several festivals
each year, and a wide variety of shops selling Swedish gifts and miscellaneous
other Swedish merchandise (Lingonberry preserves, for example, also Ole and Lena
joke books). We just returned from a great weekend there with the celebration
of Midsommarsdag, saw the raising of the Majstang and lots of Swedish music,
dances, a Smorgasbord, etc. It is a GREAT place to visit and there seemed to
be quite a vew visitors from Sweden in attendance, most apparently really
enjoying themselves.
But there are few, if any, Swedish cars in Lindsborg. I saw ONE Volvo during
the weekend and it had a NEW YORK license plate!!
It looks like someone needs to put Volvo Cars North America in touch with the
Lindsborg Chamber of Commerce. It would seem that loyalty to the Swedish
heritage in this place would make a Volvo dealership a very natural thing.
What can we do?
