Driving sans overdrive 200 1989

The car: A 1989 240, automatic (unfortunately).

The problem: At first that stupid arrow kept lighting up, and I had to keep fooling with the switch to get it to go out. And now, suddenly, I have no overdrive.

The engine sounds really taxed at about 60 mph without the overdrive, or perhaps it is just my perception.

1. Fuses LOOK OK, but I can't seem to figure out what fuse controls the OD, if any.

2. I have neither time nor money to go see the local Volvo surgeon, and he generally has a six-week wait anyway. I am going to be working on a project for six weeks that requires a 60-mile roundtrip commute, almost all of it on an expressway. Am I damaging the tranny to drive it without the OD for a while, knowing that a lot of it will be at high speed?

thanks...fiddlin' mike
