1975 240 AT in a 122S? 120-130

I may have foudn someone who'l trade/sell me an M41 tranny. It needs an unspecified rebuild/repair in the grearbox, but I have 2 spare M40s for donor parts. However, since such an upgrade will lead to some modification, mainly if I want a "short shifter" I'm also considering raiding the only old volvo I know of in this area. An undisclosed pick-apart has a 1975 245 with a B20 and the remains of an early-style injection system. I don't feel ready to try a completely new engine, but I'm considering the value of the transmission.

Some people love a manual gearbox. I'm fond of the ease of driving an automatic, but I really care about the fuel economy of having a 5th gear. The 75 has an automatic, which bolts to it's B20 engine. Could I bolt such an AT to my B18 and would it work, or did too much change on the rear of these engines? Would I be better off trying a T5 conversion?
