I wrote about 2 months ago asking for advice on rebuilding a b21ft engine and got some sound advice to just drop a used engine in instead because of Volvo reliability. I did that, getting a good looking 85 from a salvage yard with 85k miles on it. It was easy taking it out because I had 3 guys helping me, but parts flew everywhere when they did. Well, now I'm doing this alone and putting together one big puzzle. I've got almost everything together but there are small things that are kicking my ass.
Of the alternator that I have, it has the regulator attached to the housing and one spade connector with one bolt connector in the back. Well, the line coming from my pigtail has red, green and black connectors in addition to the round end red power connector. I took the pigtail for the 85 and put it on the 84 so now how do I adapt this? Everything else is a good match.
The belts! I've got 4 or 5 belts, some smooth on the inner side and some grooved. I have no idea which belt is the alternator belt, which is the power steering pump belt, the a/c compressor belt or the shaft belt. Anyone?
I have a Haynes manual with NO EXPLODED VIEWS FOR THE VACUUM SYSTEM. WTF? Does anyone know where I can get some images that will enlighten me on the vacuum?
On wiring....I have a three prong connector that I have no clue where it goes to and it looks like the 2 other 2 prong connectors where one is for fuel injection and the other sit under the intake. In addition, I have some spade connectors coming out of the engine on both sides.
All of the plumbing is done, with the radiator and turbo cooler and oil cooler in place and all pumps and everything else I can think of in place. I have new oil pressure sensers and a new pilot bearing and new rear oil seal and new timing belt and more new parts. All I need to do is get these nit picky small things. Anyone?
