Help please, which is newer, type 'L' auto tranny or type non 'L' 200

I need to know whether to look in newer 200/700s for the right tranny for my '89 244 or to look for older models to pull it out of.
The tranny in my car is an AW 03 70.
The one I got from the j-yard is a AW 03 70L. I got it out of an '88 745. I thought it would be the right one but I guess not. Are all of the auto trannys in the 700 series going to be the type "L" type?
Thanks in advance.
And please do not park in front of my car because I currently have no reverse.
